Why Cole Stockton missed Morecambe's loss to Bolton Wanderers as Derek Adams makes result claim

Cole Stockton missed Morecambe's loss to Bolton Wanderers owing to an illness which kept him out of the weekend draw to Fleetwood Town as Derek Adams felt his side could have had one or maybe even three points against the Whites.

The Whites took the lead in the first half through Liverpool loanee Conor Bradley, who caused the Shrimps problems all evening, found the back of the net on the turn with his second goal for his loan club. He finshed off a flowing attacking move as the Shrimps struggled to create many chances which troubled James Trafford.

Aside from a Ryan Delaney header which went wide in the second half, the Shrimps did not create too much, though put more pressure on Wanderers in the closing stages. Wanderers managed to secure a 1-0 win which lifted them to fourth in the League One table.

Shrimps star striker Stockton was absent from the matchday squad against the Whites. Adams confirmed the striker remains ill and the club's physiotherapist is keeping him informed of the striker's condition.

Overall, Adams was pleased with what he saw from his side and felt they were the ones in the ascendancy in the latter stages. He feels they were unfortunate not to pick up one point or possibly even all three in the encounter.

He told the club's YouTube channel: "I was really pleased with everyone in the team tonight. I thought the backline kept Bolton very quiet. They didn't concede too many opportunities to them throughout the 90 minutes and that was really pleasing.

"I thought it was a very good performance from us tonight. It was probably one of our best performances coming here. I think that the way we passed the ball and retained possession and the chances that we did have in the game, we were unfortunate not to have come away with a draw and maybe even a win.

"Tonight they've had an opportunity in the 18-yard box in the first half and been able to scramble a goal in.

"We got in good areas in that first half and probably around the halfway line we gave a couple of balls away where we could have broke the line, we could have got ourselves into a better position highr up the pitch and would have opened up Bolton.

"I think that we looked very organised, tactically we were very good because Bolton have beaten Wycombe Wanderers here 3-0 in the past but they didn't have many opportunities to score tonight and we were unlucky with Ryan Delaney's header just into the second half that went past the upright.

"I thought my players tonight really worked hard. We were the team in that last 15 to 20 minutes going for the win. Bolton were hanging on at the end. The ball boys were taking their time in the stands to get the ball back, the goalkeeper was, so it's just natural when you have that amount of pressure on a team coming away from home, uou are disappointed that you haven't been able to get a goal."
