There is much to love about Christian Eriksen if you’re a Manchester United fan. But even football, nay sports lovers in general will be pleased he is back at the highest level after his Euro 2020 scare.
Just seven months after his on-field cardiac arrest, he made an astonishing comeback with Brentford in January, notching four assists and a goal in 11 Premier League games. Erik ten Hag spied his opportunity and brought him in over the summer, making the free agent his second signing.
And ever since, he’s arguably been United ’s best player. He’s an integral part of a newly-formed midfield trio alongside fellow transfer window arrival Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

The Dane has operated from a slightly deeper role than he had done previously in his career but has flourished. He is the club’s current top assist provider with six so far this season.
He grabbed his first Reds goal in the 2-1 win over Fulham just before the World Cup break, having also assisted Alejandro Garnacho’s winner. A quiet but vital operator, his presence in the centre of the park is greatly missed when not on the pitch.
This was evidenced in United’s 4-2 win over Aston Villa in the League Cup, just three days before the Fulham triumph. The hosts looked lethargic in the first-half, lacking a real drive form the centre of the park in reminiscent scenes of last season.
Eriksen came on the final half-an-hour and his stylish link-up play saw United net three goals before full-time to advance to the next round. After the game, Marcus Rashford was full of praise for the playmaker and made comments that encapsulate his terrific stay so far.
“It’s the quality in the passes, the calmness, he’s a top player,” he said. Eriksen was previously named as the club’s player of the month for September.
He said he was “grateful” to the fans who voted for him, adding: “It means a connection with the fans and they feel part of it.” Eriksen is certainly a player who leads by actions and his quality on the ball has allowed United to be within touching distance of the top four at Christmas.
