Why Arsenal will be in a good position to seal early January transfer deal after World Cup break

The summer transfer window only slammed shut just less than a fortnight ago, but the Arsenal rumour mill is already rumbling ahead of January. The likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Marco Asensio were players linked with the Gunners in the summer, and their names are being mentioned ahead of the winter transfer window.

The good news for Arsenal is that they are in a great position to get their transfer business done early in January if they wish to do so. That's because the Gunners have only submitted 21 players for their Premier League squad this season. The likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli didn't have to be registered in that list as they are all aged 21 and under.

All 20 Premier League clubs had to submit a squad with a maximum of 25 players to see them through till January, but Arsenal only put forward a squad of 21 - meaning that they have spaces available. That means any January additions will be able to go straight into their Premier League squad, whereas some other clubs will have to swap a player out and perhaps wait for outgoings before they bring anyone in.

The Gunners submitted 14 non-homegrown players to their squad list, which means they still have room for three overseas players. A maximum of 17 non-home-grown players are allowed, with the rest made up of English-born players.

Therefore, Arsenal have the capacity to submit the likes of Mudryk, Asensi, and Douglas Luiz straight away if they sign any of those players in January and have the space to register all three with no exits needed to register.
