A bunch of Stranger Things fans have taken to social media to criticise the acting chops of some castmates, just days after the first volume of season five was released on Netflix.
ICYMI, we’ve all been swept up in the mysteries of The Upside Down with the arrival of the final season’s first batch of episodes on Thursday.
While reviews for the first four episodes have been largely positive, some fans have roasted a few of the castmates for what they described as the “diminished” quality of acting.

“I might be the minority but all of the main cast in season five really feel like they’re phoning it in,” one user wrote on Reddit. “Gives me the vibes of ‘I’m done with this shit’.”
While that post refrained from mentioning names, fans were less coy over on X, where they specifically called out castmates like Noah Schnapp (who plays Will), Maya Hawke (Robin) and Finn Wolfhard (Mike).
“Noah Schnapp’s acting in Stranger Things season 5 is so bad oh my god,” one less-than-impressed X user wrote, while another quipped that Wolfhard “needs acting classes”. A third claimed “Maya Hawke’s acting this season is horrible.”
Others took aim more broadly at the dialogue, saying “the acting isn’t the problem with Stranger Things, it’s the script. It’s cringy and it’s been cringy for years.”

The criticisms come despite the mostly glowing reviews earned by Stranger Things’ latest offering, with The Guardian saying in a four-star review that despite the whole “adults playing kids” issue, the “luxurious final run will have you standing on a chair, yelling with joy”.
Meanwhile, the BBC said in its equally positive review that “no Stranger Things fan is going away disappointed from these episodes.”
It comes after news that a Stranger Things spinoff is officially in the works at Netflix, with the streamer’s CEO Ted Sarandos confirming that “the world of Hawkins, Indiana and the Upside Down is not over”.
Speaking to PEDESTRIAN.TV, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed they are “working on a spinoff” but it “doesn’t involve any of the characters or Hawkins”.
Wherever you land in terms of the casts’ acting chops is ultimately up to you, but I think we can all agree that Priah Ferguson (who plays Erika) is a certified star.
Oh, and Mike’s badass mum, Karen (Cara Buono).
