Why Antony and Victor Lindelof are missing for Manchester United

Victor Lindelof and Antony's absences for Manchester United against West Ham are both enforced.

Lindelof is missing through illness and Antony is injured, having required treatment in the 3-0 Europa League win over Sheriff on Thursday night.

Antony came off at half-time, although it was unclear at the time whether he was injured or rested.

"He's injured and I hope it's not too bad," United manager Erik ten Hag said on Sky Sports. "I think it's not too bad and in a couple of days he will be back."

United travel to San Sebastian to play Real Sociedad in their final Europa League group stage game on Thursday, and have to win by two goals to finish top of Group E and avoid a two-legged knockout tie in February against a team demoted from the Champions League.

Lindelof started against Sheriff in the absence of Raphael Varane, who is not due to play for United again before the World Cup because of a hamstring injury.

Centre-back is becoming a growing issue for United due to how susceptible to injury their players have been.

Varane has suffered two lay-offs already this season, Lindelof missed the first three weeks of the campaign and Maguire was recently absent for four weeks.

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones have been absent for the entirety of the season and Teden Mengi played his first 90 minutes in eight months for the Under-21s on Saturday at Tottenham.
