Why a Labour MP wants the UK to have a ‘summer of sex’

  • Labour MP Samantha Niblett has launched a campaign titled ‘Yes Sex Please, We’re British!’ to advocate for more open, inclusive, and lifelong sex education.
  • The MP for Derbyshire South aims to make 2026 the “summer of sex” and intends to bring sex toys into Parliament to foster conversation about sexual pleasure.
  • Niblett is collaborating with sextech entrepreneur Cindy Gallop, who founded the adult video website MakeLoveNotPorn, which offers an alternative to hardcore pornography.
  • She emphasised the importance of tackling stigma around sex, stating that humans have a natural interest in it and it should be recognised as a joyful experience.
  • Niblett reflected on her own school sex education, describing it as “pretty medical” and focused on what not to do, with no mention of pleasure.
