Who won the 2021 Champions League last year and what was the Chelsea v Man City score?

The 2022 Champions League final is almost upon us, so it's the perfect time to cast our memories back to this time last year when Chelsea sealed the trophy for just the second time in the club's history with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

The European football showpiece was played out on May 29, 2021, in Porto, where a single Kai Havertz goal decided the contest to take the trophy to Stamford Bridge. He scored the winner with three minutes to go before half time by taking a superb through-ball by Mason Mount beyond Ederson in the Manchester City goal and stroked it into the net. It was the perfect way to end his debut season for the Blues.

It was also a masterstroke from manager Thomas Thuchel, who had been drafted in some four months earlier wanting to return the club to the following season's Champions League through a top-four Premier League finish - only to win the title for the second time in Chelsea's history. They remain the only London club to have won the European Cup.

Chelsea defended for their lives to stifle Guardiola's City and enjoyed a perfect platform of a structured attaching approach and picking their moments smartly.

At the end, City's Riyad Mahrez lifted a shot just off target with practically the last kick after seven minutes of stoppage time, but the single goal proved decisive in Chelsea's favour.
