Who will win Rangers vs Celtic? Our writers make their predictions for Viaplay Cup Final

Jock Stein said only a fool would try to predict the outcome of an Old Firm game. Now, the Record Sport team of experts have been called that plenty of times - and in some cases, worse - so they have kindly offered their prediction.

They are never easy to call but this is a particularly tough one and our guys have delved deep into their knowledge and drawn on their experience of the fixture to try and come up with a scoreline.

Will Celtic and Ange Postecoglou hold onto their trophy? Or is this to be the first step towards a shift in power in Scottish football under Michael Beale? We will know just before 5pm on Sunday, or possibly later if extra time and penalties is required. But it's prediction time and our writers have made their picks for the big one at Ibrox.

Scott Burns

I don’t think there will be much in the game. It could go either way but I just feel Celtic have too many attacking options that are in better form. I expect big performances from Jota and Kyogo. Malik Tillman could be big for Rangers.

Rangers 1 Celtic 2

Keith Jackson

This one feels almost impossible to call. Rampant Celtic ought to be slight favourites - and if the champs hit top form they are capable of blowing their rivals away. But then Rangers have been rejuvenated under Michael Beale and have players in attacking areas who can do Celtic serious damage. The closer we get to kick-off the more I think a surprise might be on the cards.

Rangers 3 Celtic 2

David McCarthy

It’s going to be a belter of a contest. Every Celtic fan I know seems to think their team will win comfortably but I don’t see the evidence to back up that confidence. Postecoglou’s men are playing really well but Beale’s have matched them stride for stride since his arrival. I think Rangers will edge it.

Rangers 2 Celtic 1

Michael Gannon

This should be a thriller between two attacking teams. If Celtic can get to grips with the midfield and get their wide men in the game, they’ll get some joy against Rangers. If the Ibrox side can stop Callum McGregor dictating then they can assert themselves. There should be goals but the strength Celts have from the bench should see them edge it, maybe even after 120 minutes.

Rangers 2 Celtic 3 (after extra time)

Fraser Wilson

The last derby and current form shows there’s very little between these two sides and that hopefully points towards this being a final for the ages. Celtic’s midfield has an energy and goal threat that is unmatched in Scotland right now and I think their forward players just have the edge on Rangers as well. So I reckon the Hoops will take a first step towards a potential Treble. But only just.

Rangers 1 Celtic 2

Gordon Parks

All of the potent attacking weapons at Celtic’s disposal will ensure more silverware for a Hoops side out in a league of their own when it comes to options. Rangers lack the guile or goal threat required and it remains to be seen if they can turn this final into the scrape which would give them a fighting chance of lifting the trophy.

Rangers 0 Celtic 2

Gavin Berry

Comparisons have been made with the timing of Michael Beale’s arrival and when Alex McLeish took over at Rangers. McLeish managed to win two enthralling derby clashes at Hampden as he laid down a marker for the following season. This one could be similar. Strap yourselves in.

Rangers 3 Celtic 2 (aet)

Craig Swan

Both teams are in terrific winning form and there are plenty goals in each of the sides. Celtic have hammered 31 in their last nine games and have found a defensive solidity. Combine those attributes again and they can retain the trophy.

Rangers 1 Celtic 3
