Manchester City will make their debut in the FIFA Club World Cup this year thanks to their historic Champions League success.

Pep Guardiola's side made history when they became only the second English club to win the Treble. After lifting the Premier League and the FA Cup, City beat Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul to complete the set.

Victory in Turkey not only secured the Blues' first Champions League but also booked their place in the tournament. But where is it and who will City be facing? MEN Sport has taken a look at everything you need to know.

When is the Club World Cup?

The FIFA Club World Cup will take place between Tuesday, December 12 and Saturday, December 23.

Who is the host nation?

This year the host nation will be Saudi Arabia with all matches being staged in the city of Jeddah.

What is the format?

City will be one of seven teams competing for the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023. All six of the Champions League winners plus the champions of the host country will enter the tournament.

This format will see the OFC Champions League winners kick off the tournament with a play-off round match against the host nation's champions. The winner of this match will then join the AFC, CONCACAF and CAF Champions League winners in the quarter-finals.

Guardiola's men will then enter at the semi-final stage alongside the Copa Libertadores winners and the two quarter-finalists. The winners will then progress to the final while the losers will take part in a third-place match.

Who has qualified?

Here are the teams who will be qualifying for the end-of-year tournament:

  • Auckland City - OFC Champions League winners
  • Al Ittihad - Host nation champions
  • Leon - CONCACAF Champions League winners
  • Al Ahly - CAF Champions League winners
  • Urawa Red Diamonds - AFC Champions League winners
  • Manchester City - UEFA Champions League winners
  • TBC in November - Copa Libertadores winners

City's route to the final?

After the completion of the play-off and quarter-final stage which will be contested by Auckland City, Al Ittihad, Leon, Al Ahly and Urawa Red Diamonds, the Blues will enter at the semi-final stage.

From there they will only have to beat one of Auckland City/Al Ittihad, Leon, Al Ahly or Urawa Red Diamonds to reach the final. City will not be able to face the Copa Libertadores winners at the semi-final stage.
