Following the announcement that Liz Truss will resign as Prime Minister, speculation has come flooding in on who will be her replacement.
After a disastrous string of economic policies which threw markets into turmoil, Ms Truss agreed to a leadership election with the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. She also confirmed that the leadership election will be held within the next week.
It means that before the end of the month, the Conservative Party will have a new leader and the country, a new Prime Minister. Speaking to reporters outside of Downing Street, Ms Truss said: "I recognise… given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.”
