Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, once the longest-serving Republican speaker in U.S. history, has died at 84. His political career took him from an Illinois classroom to the top of the House, but his legacy was later overwhelmed by revelations of sexual abuse involving teenage boys he coached.
Dennis Hastert died Saturday at his home in Kendall County, Illinois, while receiving hospice care, according to Kendall County Coroner Jacquie Purcell. She said he died of natural causes.
