Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? returned to TV screens on Saturday night for its eighth series under former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson. Once more, members of the general public answered 15 questions in a bid to win a life-changing £1,000,000.
The global hit game show made its ITV comeback in May 2018 to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary and in 2020, the series crowned its first millionaire in 14 years. Over the years, the show's format hasn't changed too much but during the new series, viewers appeared to be confused by a shock twist that was introduced.
This series' first five contestants have won their spot on the show by winning sister show, Fastest Finger First, which is hosted by Anita Rani on the same channel. As the name suggests, Fastest Finger First expands on the first round of Millionaire, where contestants have to put their answers to a multiple-choice question, in a specific order.

In the spin-off show, which has been airing on weekdays this week, five contestants play against each other to take it in turns to work their way up the question ladder. The two players with the biggest score at the end of the round go head-to-head in a Fastest Finger First duel. The winner is then fast tracked to sit in the Millionaire hot seat in front of Clarkson, by-passing the Fastest Fingers First round that opens the main show.
Anita Rani said of the new spin-off show: “I’ve always loved Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and was thrilled to be invited to host this spin off. I’m a huge fan of quiz shows, and there is no doubt that Jeremy is a formidable host. I’m just relieved in Fastest Finger First, there isn’t a round for contestants to ask for my answers to the questions!”
