The World Health Organization now describes the Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as the largest Ebola outbreak ever reported in that country, surpassing the 2018 to 2020 epidemic that had held the record.
As of July 30, WHO reported 3,605 confirmed cases and 1,587 deaths in the DRC, a crude case fatality ratio of 44 percent. The agency also reported the outbreak's worst week to date. During epidemiological week 30, health authorities recorded 567 cases and 296 deaths, the highest weekly figures since transmission began.
