‘Who knows what’s next? We really hope to see Boris sampling one of our doughnuts’

An artisan doughnut company that has sold its treats to Windsor Castle has now been invited to serve its products in the Houses of Parliament.

Project D, based in Spondon, in Derby, has been invited to showcase their doughnuts at a Derbyshire Food and Drinks Fair in Parliament’s Jubilee Room.

The firm, which recently started selling wholesale, has previously won orders for its handcrafted doughnuts from companies including Amazon, British Airways, Coca Cola and Sainsbury’s.

The team has been invited down to Westminster by Derbyshire MPs Amanda Solloway and Pauline Latham with the July event expected to be attended by members of the Commons and Lords, as well as parliamentary staff.

It is being run to raise awareness of the county’s food and drink and highlight the importance of buying local produce.

Operations manager Max Poynton said: “One of the most exciting things about Project D is never knowing what each day will bring – there’s always something new and innovative happening.

“In the early days of our business we were asked to provide doughnuts for staff and residents at Windsor Castle and now we’re off to Parliament – who knows what’s next? We really hope to see Boris sampling one of our doughnuts.

“On a more serious note, we are very proud to have been asked. We are proud of our Derbyshire links and it will be an absolute pleasure to represent the county in London.”

The July 6 event will give Project D the opportunity to show Parliamentarians at every level what the company has to offer, not only to its consumers but also to the local economy.

Derby North MP Amanda Solloway said: “The Parliamentarian food and drinks fair will be held in the historic setting of the Palace of Westminster and provides Derbyshire with an excellent opportunity to showcase our talents to some very different consumers.

“Project D is an absolutely brilliant example of what can be achieved with creative thinking, hard work and a passion for their products.

“Like other Derbyshire MPs I am very proud of our local producers and hope showing it off in Parliament will help our companies flourish.”
