The Chicago Bears are making a significant change to their offense. On Tuesday, Chicago fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Bears passing coordinator Thomas Brown has been named interim offensive coordinator.

Waldron is out after nine games in his first season with the team.
“After evaluating our entire operation, I decided that it is in the best interest of our team to move in a different direction with the leadership of our offense. This decision was well-thought-out, one that was conducted deliberately and respectfully,” said head coach Matt Eberflus on Tuesday. “I would like to thank Shane for his efforts and wish him the best moving forward.
After a 4-2 start, the Bears have lost three consecutive games. The Bears’ offense has not scored a touchdown in 23 straight drives. During this three-game skid, the Bears have scored a combined 27 points.
Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams continues to struggle. The former No. 1 pick has been sacked 38 times, the most for a rookie through 10 weeks since Houston’s David Carr in 2002, per NFL Research.
Williams ranks 32nd in completion percentage (50.5) and 30th in total QBR (21.2) over the last three games.

Meet Thomas Brown

Brown, 38, is in his first season with the Chicago Bears.
Brown served as the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers in 2023.
Before Carolina, Brown spent three years working as an offensive assistant with the Los Angeles Rams (2020-2022). Brown worked on a Rams team that won Super Bowl LVI during the 2021 NFL season.
Brown’s coaching career began as the strength and conditioning coach with the Georgia Bulldogs in 2011.
After stints at Chattanooga (2012), Marshall (2013), Wisconsin (2014), and Georgia (2015), Brown became the offensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes from 2016 to 2018.
Brown played running back at Georgia (2004-2007), leaving the school as the fifth-leading rusher in program history with 2,646 rushing yards.
The Atlanta Falcons selected Brown in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Brown remained in the NFL until June 2010.
