Shankh Mitra, the Indian-origin chief executive of Welltower, has become the world's second-highest paid CEO in 2025 after receiving a compensation package worth $821 million. The massive payout places him behind only Tesla chief Elon Musk and has drawn global attention to the executive who rose from Kolkata to the top ranks of corporate America.
Mitra leads Welltower, a real estate investment trust focused on senior housing, healthcare facilities, and wellness properties. Most of his compensation was tied to stock awards linked to the company's long-term performance.
