Who is Katie Taylor next opponent? Meet Karen Elizabeth Carabajal who is undefeated in 19 fights

Katie Taylor will return to the ring on October 29 to face undefeated Argentinian Karen Elizabeth Carabajal.

The bout headlines a card at the Wembley Arena in London, the same venue where Taylor made her professional debut in 2016 and where she defeated Miriam Gutierrez during lockdown in late 2020.

It will be the undisputed lightweight champion's first fight since her historic win over Amanda Serrano back in April when the bout became the first female contest to headline a show at Madison Square Garden.

Taylor knew everything she possibly could about Serrano going into the contest having prepared for the bout twice previously, before both those scheduled fights fell through.

But Carabajal will be a very different challenge as little is known about the 32-year-old outside of her native Argentina.

This will be her first fight outside the South American country, where she has won all 19 of her fights since her first professional bout in 2013. Two of those victories came via knockout.

The Buenos Aires native is a former WBC Latino, South American and Argentinian Super-Featherweight Champion, and is promoted by Argentine legend Marcos Maidana.

Both of her knockout wins came in 2021 before she won via unanimous decision in April of this year.

Carabajal took almost three years out of the ring prior to the first of those knockout wins.

Taylor has twice previously fought Argentinian boxers as a professional, beating Anahi Ester Sanchez via unanimous decision to win her first world title on the undercard of Anthony Joshua's 2017 win over Carlos Takam at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff before also winning on points against Victoria Noelia Bustos at the Barclays Centre six months later to claim her second world lightweight belt.

“I was very happy when I received the offer to challenge Katie,” said Carabajal, who at 32 is four years younger than Taylor. “The hard work has paid off. I’m not thinking for a second about giving Katie a win. All the belts will come back to Argentina with me.”

“We will travel to London with our undefeated warrior and we will shock the boxing world,” added Maidana. “Katie Taylor will be amazed. This will be Chino Maidana Promotions and my co-promotion partner Legacy Boxing second World championship this year, it will be a huge success for us as a new company.”
