When Kieran Culkin picked up the award for outstanding actor in a drama series at the Emmys on Monday night, he had the audience in fits of laughter with a speech dedicated to his wife.
The actor won the award for his role as Roman Roy in the hit TV series Succession, and took to the stage to tell his wife Jazz Charton that he wanted more kids.
“Thank you for sharing your life with me and giving me two amazing kids," Culkin said. "I want more. You said ‘maybe’, if I win! I love you so much.”
In response, the camera panned to Charton who could be seen covering her face with her hands.
The brother of Home Alone star Macaulay, both Culkin brothers have enjoyed stardom since they were children.
However, Charton has only been in the spotlight since she began dating the Succession star. She met her husband in 2012 in a bar, and they have been pretty private ever since.
The couple tied the knot in 2013 while on a road trip in Iowa, and have two children together.
Here’s everything you need to know about Charton and her relationship with Culkin.
She’s from London, but the pair met in New York
Charton has not shared much about her childhood. She was born in London and brought up by a "single mum", former model turned artist Corinne "Coco" Charton.
She moved to New York from London in September 2010.
In May 2023, she posted photos from a trip to the UK capital on Instagram, including photos with family and friends and a picture of some sweets themed around King Charles and his coronation. "Oh London, you tempting beast. How dare you make me consider a move back," she wrote in the caption.
A meet-cute in a New York bar
Culkin and Charton met in a bar in 2012. At the time, Charton was working in the music department of an ad agency.
Back in October 2021, the actor revealed to The Hollywood Reporter the unorthodox way he managed to win Jazz's affection.
"I said, 'I'm Kieran. You have an English accent. What's your name?' She said, 'Jazz.' I said, 'J-A-Z-Z, like the music?' And she said, 'Yeah.' And I said, 'Well, that's f***ing stupid.'" And the rest is - how you say - history.
In a separate interview with iNews, he described his now wife as the "most beautiful girl", but shared that he actually thought there had been competition on the night they met, when he saw there was another man seated next to Jazz. He waited until the other man left to go to the bathroom and went in to take his seat.
"I asked if he was her boyfriend and when she said no, I asked if I could be her boyfriend. We've been together ever since," Culkin said.
A low-key wedding by the side of the road in Iowa
Charton and Culkin tied the knot on June 22, 2013, in Iowa.
Back in June 2017, she posted a sweet picture with the caption: "#tbt to taking time out of our road trip to get married by the side of the road in Iowa during a storm 4 years ago today. Still the best pit stop I've ever made."
In 2020, Charton shared another photo from the special day, and further elaborated on the elopement, writing: "7 years ago we went on what was supposed to be a 6-week road trip but ended up taking 3 1/2 months. 7 years ago we fell in love with Iowa. 7 years ago we met a girl named Kinsey who helped us get our marriage license and 7 years ago today we said I do in the rain with 3 strangers. Whose genius idea was it to have Father’s Day right before our anniversary? One gift counts for both right?"
Kieran and Jazz have two children together – but Kieran might want a third
The couple's first child Kinsey Sioux, nicknamed Zissou, was born in September 2019.
After Kieran lost the Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actor in 2020, Jazz shared a funny story about their daughter on Instagram. Posting a picture of the actor empty-handed, the caption read: "My 3-time Golden Globe loser. I got pregnant the last time he lost, so I'm out of consolation prize ideas...#alwaysabridesmaidneverabride #goldenglobes2020."
In 2020, Charton shared an Instagram post commemorating the couple's seventh wedding anniversary, and revealed that "a girl named Kinsey" had helped the couple get their marriage license - hence their daughter's name.
Their second child, Wilder Wolf was born on August 17, 2021, but he didn't have a name for a number of weeks following his birth.
"My wife wanted Wolf. She was fighting hard for Wolf," Kieran shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show later that year. "We found [the name] in the hospital the day that he was born and we thought 'That's great'. But instead of pulling the trigger on it, [we thought], 'Let's torture ourselves for about seven weeks,' disagreeing with names before we come around to the name that we picked. Cause, we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl."
It seems that the couple didn’t always want kids. In 2018, Culkin told iNews that the couple were apprehensive, saying: "It just seems like a lot to take on. I suppose if she gets pregnant, that would be fine but it's really not on our horizon."
However, Culkin seems to have changed his mind - and judging by his recent speech at the Emmys, the couple could even welcome another baby in the future.
