EastEnders actor Jaz Deol has left the popular BBC series after three years.

Three years ago, the London-born soap actor made his debut in EastEnders as Kheerat, leaving a lasting effect on both its residents and the show's fans. In his final moments Kheerat confessed to the murder of Ranveer Gulati, in the hopes of saving his mother from life in prison.

"We can confirm that Jaz has left EastEnders and we wish him all the very best for the future," a BBC representative told the Sun in response to the news.

But who is Jaz Deol and what happened in the final scene?

Who is Jaz Deol?

Deol is an English actor best known for portraying the role of Kheerat Panesar in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. Deol’s character was part of the first Sikh family in EastEnders. The Panesar family are of Sikh heritage.

The 33-year-old made his onscreen debut in the 2010 television film Casting Nina as Bhaljit Singh.

He then made appearances in television series such as Code of a Killer, Together and The Halcyon.

What happened to Jaz Deol’s character?

In the episode, the oldest Panesar sibling admitted to killing Ranveer Gulati, who had actually been killed by Ravi Gulati, in an effort to spare his mother's life.

But when Suki (the mother) found out about his plan, she slapped him and demanded he stop his plans.

“You’re not just my son,” Suki told him.

“You’re my heart. You’re the reason I get up every morning and the reason I count my blessings every night.

“I need your strength. I need you at my side if I’m going to get through this, so you promise me that this is over.”

Kheerat then summoned his siblings to a meeting, making his mind up.

“She’s going to need protecting especially from dad,” he told them.

“You’d do the same if it was your mum,” he told girlfriend Stacey Slater as he said goodbye to her.

“I’ve called the police – they’re on their way. If my mum goes to prison then my entire family falls apart and I can’t let that happen. I’m just sorry.”
