Jane Austen’s final novel is the latest to be adapted into the small screen. Persuasion was published a year after Austen’s death in 1818.
The over 200 year-old novel has been adapted into a film of the same name and is now available on Netflix. It comes after a release in cinemas a week prior to it arriving on the streaming service.

Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot
Dakota Johnson plays the lead role of Anne in Persuasion. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress made her film debut at age ten with a minor role in the dark comedy film Crazy in Alabama with her mother Melanie Griffith.
Cosmo Jarvis as Captain Frederick Wentworth
Cosmo Jarvis plays opposite Johnson as Captain Frederick Wentworth. The American-British actor played Sebastian in William Oldroyd's debut feature film Lady Macbeth.
Henry Golding as Mr William Elliot
Henry Golding plays Anne’s cousin Mr William Eliot. Golding has been a presenter on BBC's The Travel Show since 2014. However, he is mainly known for his film work, playing the role of Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians, the title character in the action-adventure Snake Eyes, Sean Townsend in the thriller A Simple Favour, and Tom in the romantic comedy Last Christmas.
Richard E Grant as Sir Walter Elliot
Richard E Grant plays Anne’s narcissistic father. Grant made his film debut as Withnail in the comedy Withnail and I. But he received critical acclaim for his role as Jack Hock in the drama film Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
Nikki Amuka-Bird as Lady Russell
Nikki Amuka-Bird plays Lady Russell, the close friend of Anne’s late mother. Amuka-Bird is known for playing Chief Inspector Erin Gray in Luther and Rav Mulcair in Avenue 5.

What is Persuasion about?
In typical Austen fashion, the plot is one that concerns love. Anne Elliot’s old love Frederick Wenworth, who she was engaged to, has entered back in her life after a seven-year separation. She has to decide whether to leave the past in the past or listen to her heart and give Frederick a second chance.
