Fans of the mystery show Grantchester will be delighted to discover that the next series of the ITV hit will begin tonight (March 11, 2022) at 9 pm.
Now into its seventh season, the 1950s drama is based on the fiction novel “The Grantchester Mysteries” by James Runcie.
The series has become a favourite of drama fans, who often comment on its superb casting. Series seven will again feature Robson Green as Detective Inspective Geordie Keating (who described the new series as the “best yet”) and Tom Brittney, who will not only return as Grantchester’s Reverend Will Davenport but will also step behind the camera for his Grantchester directorial debut in episode 3.

Brittney has said: “I’m thrilled to be back on set with my Grantchester family and back in our happy place. I’m also absolutely over the moon to be given the opportunity to direct an episode this series, it’s been a life ambition of mine and I can’t wait for the audience to see it (and also I can finally order Robson about)."
With the news that Tom Brittney will take on more than one role this season, many fans have been taking a fresh look into what the Kent-born actor has been in before.
Who is actor Tom Brittney and what TV shows has he been in?
Tom Brittney was born on October 26 1990, in Gravesend, Kent, going on to study at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In the early 2010s, he got some of his TV debut’s playing Ollie Cox in the BBC daytime soap Doctors and other roles in Call The Midwife, Pramface and Casualty.
In 2015, he played Greg in the sci-fi drama Humans before taking several recurring roles in series like The Five and The Syndicate. He also made several appearances in the drama Outlander as Lieutenant Jeremy Foster.
In the latter part of the decade, Tom would star in Spark, X Company and Genius, before landing a role in the movie Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, which also starred Annette Bening and Jamie Bell and was nominated for 3 BAFTAs.
Until 2018, he would also star as Roger Lockwood in UnREAL, an award-winning series set around the production of a competitive dating show. Over the next few years, he would have several credited roles, including in Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, Greyhound and Invasion, as well as starring as Billy in the TV movie, Make Me Famous. In 2019, he would join the cast of Grantchester in a role he continues in today.
