All about Christian Joel Young
Christian Joel Young, 28, was arrested by Park City Police shortly after the incident and booked into the Summit County Jail. According to a probable cause affidavit, Young allegedly gained entry to the private event by jumping over a security barrier after being denied access.
Once inside, Young allegedly confronted Rep. Frost, making racially charged remarks, including telling the congressman, “We are going to deport you and your kind,” before punching him in the face.
After the alleged attack, Young reportedly approached two female attendees, engaging them in a racially charged conversation.
One woman told police that Young grabbed her by the shoulder and slammed her against a bar while telling her, “You are being deported.”
Security personnel detained Young with the help of another attendee until police arrived. Authorities later determined that he was carrying a Sundance Film Festival pass that did not belong to him.
Young faces multiple charges, including aggravated burglary, assaulting an elected official, and assault.
A judge ordered him held without bail, citing concerns that he posed a danger to the community and could flee if released. Court records indicate Young has a prior misdemeanour conviction.
Frost said he was not seriously injured and thanked venue security and Park City police for their quick response.
The Sundance Film Festival issued a statement condemning the assault, emphasising that while the incident occurred at a non-affiliated event, such behaviour is contrary to the festival’s values of safety and inclusivity.
Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, also condemned the attack, calling it an act of hate and political violence.
