The critically acclaimed Banshees of Inisherin would not exist if it wasn't for British-Irish writer and director Martin McDonagh.
The zany period piece has been nominated for a record-breaking nine Oscars including. The film got the nod for best original screenplay, best actor in Colin Farrell and best supporting actors in Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon and Brendan Gleeson.
The award show will start place in the shortly after midnight on Sunday. Other Irish contenders for the prestigious awards are Paul Mescal for his role in Aftersun and the Irish language film, Cailin Ciuin.

Martin McDonagh was born in London to Irish parents in 1970. He is a successful playwright and has 10 plays - six of which are all set in and around County Galway where he spent much of his childhood.
His Irish heritage is an obvious feature in his work as is his absurdist black humour. He has also written and directed dour films; In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Banshees of Inisherin.
He was also a producer on his brother's film, The Guard, which Brendan Gleeson starred in. Martin grew up in London with his Irish parents from Sligo and Galway.
Since 2018, Martin has been in a relationship with actress and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
