White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated concerns on Tuesday regarding the circulation of what she referred to as 'cheap fake' videos of President Biden online. Jean-Pierre emphasized the prevalence of misinformation originating from conservative sources and highlighted the need to address and debunk such content.
During a press briefing, Jean-Pierre responded to inquiries about videos depicting Biden in various scenarios, such as interacting with a parachuter at a D-Day anniversary event in France and being escorted off stage by former President Obama at a fundraiser. She dismissed these videos as misleading and accused the Republican Party of distorting the facts to manipulate public perception.
Referring to the videos as 'deepfakes,' Jean-Pierre expressed frustration at the focus on fabricated content rather than the president's actual accomplishments and policy initiatives. She clarified her use of the term 'deepfakes' afterward, indicating that she meant to say 'cheap fakes,' which are altered recordings intended to deceive viewers.
Despite declining to delve into specifics about Biden's debate preparations, Jean-Pierre emphasized the president's commitment to addressing substantive issues and contrasting his agenda with that of 'extreme Republicans.' Biden is slated to participate in a debate on June 27, hosted by CNN, marking an early engagement in the general election cycle.
