For the first time since the numerical system became standardized in 1973, the NFL is going to allow players to wear jersey No. 0. This got us thinking about which player from the Pittsburgh Steelers would look best sporting a new jersey number.
First off, it cannot be an established veteran. Guys like Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt are too well-known with their current jersey numbers to make a switch. So it has to be a young guy, a budding star with enough swagger to make it work.
Three names come to mind. Linebacker Mark Robinson, defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal and wide receiver George Pickens. Robinson is a downhill inside linebacker who plays every snap like the ball carrier owes him money and looks to be a much bigger factor on defense this season. The same goes for Leal. He’s a bad man and is going to be a force in this league.
But I think my top option would be for Pickens to sport No. 0. He’s on the cusp of greatness and his level of confidence is certainly high enough for the number change.
