The New Orleans Saints will have the inside track on some tight end prospects in the 2023 NFL draft, with offensive assistant Declan Doyle assigned to coach that position group for the American Team in this year’s Senior Bowl college all-star game. Doyle is one of four Saints assistant coaches who will be working with players throughout the week of practices, meetings, and the game itself.
This is a great opportunity for Doyle, the Saints, and these draft prospects, so let’s familiarize ourselves with these players as they hope to turn pro:
Cameron Latu, Alabama
Listed at 6-foot-5 and 244 pounds, the redshirt senior from Salt Lake City set a school record with 8 touchdown catches by a tight end in 2021 but was slowed down by a training camp arm injury in 2022. Latu finished his Crimson Tide career with 56 receptions for 787 yards and 12 touchdown catches in 51 games.
Will Mallory, Miami
The fifth-year senior from Jacksonville is listed at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, and he ended his college career ranked top-two among Hurricanes tight ends in receptions (115), receiving yards (1,544), and touchdown catches (14). He’s appeared in 58 games at the college level but isn’t known for his skills as a blocker, instead doing his best work as a vertical threat who can outmuscle defenders at the catch point.
Luke Musgrave, Oregon State
An underclassman declarant who has already earned his degree, Musgrave hails from Bend, Ore. and is listed at 6-foot-6 and 249 pounds. He led the Beavers in receiving through their first two games but suffered a season-ending knee injury in September and opted to enter the 2023 draft rather than return to school for his senior season. Musgrave totaled 47 receptions for 633 yards and 2 touchdown catches in his 34-game career. If his knee checks out, he could be a top-50 pick.
Brayden Willis, Oklahoma
A fifth-year senior from Arlington, Texas listed at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Willis appeared in 58 games for the Sooners and caught 75 receptions for 998 yards while scoring 13 touchdown catches. He was noted as a team leader and an invaluable blocker on both run plays and passing downs, and he’ll be hoping to stand out in that department at the Senior Bowl practices.
