The 49ers will be featured heavily in Netflix’s upcoming series, ‘Receiver,’ the followup to their ‘Quarterback’ series that followed QBs Marcus Mariota, Kirk Cousins and Patrick Mahomes in their football and non-football lives. This time ‘Receiver’ will follow WRs Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown, as well as 49ers WR Deebo Samuel and TE George Kittle.
Which player will be the more intriguing to watch in the series, which follows players on and off the field?
It’s easy for Kittle to be the answer. He’s gregarious, funny and acutely aware of how to dominate a media setting. He is also a superstar when it comes to Mic’d Up segments. There just aren’t that many players in the NFL more willing to be outwardly entertaining than Kittle, and an entire show dedicated to following him around figures to be a ton of fun.
For us, however, Samuel will be the more interesting player to watch in this setting. It’s not that he doesn’t talk to media or have fun Mic’d Up moments, but we get less of Samuel in that way than we do with Kittle.
The tight end spends a ton of time in the spotlight while Samuel, for as much as we see him on the field, is less boisterous off of it. A chance to see more Samuel interactions with coaches and teammates on the field, as well as a glimpse of his life off the field should offer some new, interesting perspectives on one of San Francisco’s most important players over the last five years.
Either way the show should be a riveting watch for 49ers fans with two fan favorites at the fore. ‘Receiver’ premiers July 10 on Netflix.
