Where to watch the King’s Coronation: Procession route and screening sites

The day has arrived for the coronation of King Charles III, and revellers have descended on central London for the celebrations.

The King and the Queen Consort will travel in a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey this morning (Saturday, May 6) for the coronation, before heading back in another procession.

Those hoping to be part of such a historic day are lining the streets, hoping to catch a glimpse of the new monarch.

So if you’ve headed into London to watch the coronation, find out below what route the procession will take, as well as where you’ll be able to watch on a big screen.

What’s the King’s procession route?

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will first travel from Buckingham Palace. They’ll travel along The Mall, through Admiralty Arch, before passing to the south of the King Charles Island statue in Trafalgar Square.

They’ll turn onto Whitehall, where the procession will continue along the east and south sides of Parliament Square, before arriving at Westminster Abbey, where the service will begin at 11am.

Where can you watch the King’s Coronation in London?

The procession is sure to attract crowds and viewing space will likely be in high demand.

The viewing areas along the procession route opened from 6am on May 6, and once the viewing areas reach capacity, they will be closed.

Alternatively, the Coronation will be broadcast live on screens at Hyde Park, Green Park, and St James’s Park.

There will be four screens in Hyde Park: two near the Old Football Pitches, one near The Cockpit, and one near The Boathouse Lawn. The screening site will open at 5am.

The screens at Green Park and St James’s Park will be smaller.

How to travel to the coronation

Be aware that St James’s Park station will be closed today, Hyde Park Corner station will be exit-only, and Victoria station will have limited access to the procession route.

Instead, people hoping to view the procession from The Mall should use Waterloo, Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus, or Green Park.

People hoping to view from Whitehall should use Embankment, Westminster, or Charing Cross stations.

To get to the screening sites at Hyde Park, people should use Victoria, Paddington, Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, or Knightsbridge station.

For the screenings at St James’s Park and Green Park, use Piccadilly Circus, Charing Cross, and Green Park.
