Petrol prices have reached a three-year low in the UK - with some pumps in London selling the fuel for less than 130p per litre.
The average price of a litre of the fuel at UK forecourts on Tuesday was 135.7p, the RAC said.
The three-year low comes due amid a drop in oil prices, and the strength of the pound.
Petrol prices reached a record high of 191.5p per litre in the summer of 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine the previous February.
According to price comparison service Petrolprices.com, the cheapest unleaded petrol available in London on Wednesday was being sold for 129.7p per litre, at two Asda filling stations - one on the Old Kent Road, the other at Asda’s Isle of Dogs superstore.
Just half-a-mile down the Old Kent Road, BP was reportedly selling petrol for more than 3p more per litre, at 132.9p.
The third and fourth cheapest petrol stations in London on Tuesday were Asda on the Vallance Road in Bethnal Green, and Morrisons in Peckham, which were reportedly selling petrol for 130.7p per litre.
How to find cheapest petrol prices near you
Driving around to hunt down the cheapest petrol prices might feel like it defeats the point.
Thankfully handy websites can help you find which garages are offering the best prices near you.
Petrolprices.com allows drivers to search by postcode, town, or city, then ranks petrol stations by price. You can sort them by fuel type, fuel brands, and distance.
The website says drivers could save as much as £240 a year with the help of its price finder.
Price comparison sites including Go Compare and Confused.com also offer similar services.
RAC’s free app myRAC can also help drivers find the cheapest fuel near them.
The firm says its fuel finder feature can save users as much as 6p a litre - or £3.30 for every full 55-litre tank. It is available for anyone to download and use, not just those with an RAC membership.
Tesco in Dunton Road, Southwark, Tesco Extra in Surrey Quays, and Sainsbury’s in New Cross Gate were all selling petrol for 130.9p per litre.
According to Petrolprices.com, 20 petrol stations in London were offering petrol for prices below the current national average.
RAC fuel spokesperson Simon Williams described the recent price fall as “really positive news”.
"To see pump prices drop to this level is really positive news, both for households who depend on their vehicles for getting about, and for the wider economy as there's a clear link between the cost of fuel and the headline rate of inflation,” he said.
"Depending on where drivers fill up, they can be paying as little as £1.26 for a litre of unleaded - making the cost of refuelling a typical family car come in at under £70.
"A relatively low oil price, caused by lower demand globally, and a relatively strong pound are the two factors that are contributing to pump prices falling.
"Thankfully, we're now a long way from the record high prices of July 2022, and we believe there is scope for pump prices to come down further in the next few weeks to reflect the lower wholesale costs retailers are paying when they buy fresh fuel stocks."
Figures on Tuesday showed fuel prices were falling faster than at any other point in 2024 so far, with average prices for petrol and diesel across UK forecourts now around 7p per litre cheaper than they were a month ago.
