Where the blame lies for Tottenham's problems and why Arsenal success is even more galling

jazzs: "How much blame do you think Antonio Conte should take for the current situation? He seems so rigid in his formation choices."

Alasdair says: "I think the blame falls upon all of the major parties, Daniel Levy and the lack of a clear plan from above and the required investment levels after appointing someone like Antonio Conte, then Conte himself as the team has gone backwards this season after his fine work last year, and also the players themselves with some of them really going off the boil.

"I wrote a piece on it after the game which explains my views in detail on all of the above. If you click on the "Read More" link just below you'll find it."

chrism12: "Sadly it looks like Conte's time is coming to an end. In terms of replacements, after Jose got sacked Levy tried for Brendan Rodgers. Would he be tempted to go back given Leicester's struggles? I still think he's a top manager, and we should look beyond just Poch."

Alasdair says: "I'd imagine if Conte were to suddenly depart then the obvious and available candidates would be Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel. The latter if hired would make it five former Chelsea managers taken across to a very different job at Tottenham, which would really make Spurs look like they're just picking up Blues cast offs. Although the German is probably the best fit of the bunch with his years at Dortmund.

"Pochettino would be the emotional option but for Levy and the board it would be very publicly admitting a mistake and that's not something they often do. For the Argentine, he would have to be coming back into a situation that was different to the one he left otherwise what's the point of re-treading old ground and I think people at the top would be split on his return.

"Rodgers and Spurs have been linked with each other for years every time the job opens up but I'm not sure whether the tough time he's had this season in admittedly tough circumstances makes that a difficult sell this time around."

Mc87: "Why are the financial results being held back until February? Any chance it so new investment of some type can be announced?"

Alasdair says: "I reckon it's simply to not publicly show any selling clubs that they might have some money to spend and delay revealing whether they took the final £50m or not of ENIC's capital increase. The problem is if they have a poor transfer window then a set of results that show big profits is not going to go down well with the fanbase."

legi0n: "Any truth to the rumours that Qatar has shifted towards buying Liverpool instead of investing in us?"

Alasdair says: "My area is Tottenham really and all I know is that QSI kicked off a process with Spurs this month to see whether investment might be possible or not. Tottenham deny that was the case and we'll see whether it ever amounts to anything. I'm led to believe that a couple of other groups have shown interest about investing in the club. Of course the flipside is that selling a minority stake of shares to a group like QSI, who can't buy the club outright because of their PSG ownership, makes it less straightforward to then sell the club in future years unless everybody can agree to a sale."

mattyice1311: "I was wondering if you could shed some light on whether transfers will occur? I think that our centre-backs should be upgraded but it seems like a summer priority."

Alasdair says: "They have to. It's as simple as that, otherwise Conte will not be quiet about it as the weeks pass and the fans certainly won't. The priority seems to still be another attacker and a right wing-back and while centre-back (left and right/centre) and a central midfielder are among the summer plans with a new goalkeeper you can't rule out a move if a player became available earlier than expected this month. There's also the need to get players out of the door, particularly in the right wing-back area."

gunofason: "Is there a reason why Klinsmann is never brought up as a possible alternative to Conte?"

Alasdair says: "I was a huge fan of Klinsmann as a player but I don't think as a club coach he fits the bill for Tottenham."

oli69: "Why isn’t Djed Spence getting a chance?"

Alasdair says: "I just don't think Conte trusts him yet and he's not likely to get a chance unless there's injuries to others. That's the only real reason we've seen Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil in recent weeks although both have shown Conte that he can trust them at least and you would hope Spence would do the same.

I think we're at the stage where a loan move benefits all parties for the second half of the season but the club have to agree to that first and it may be tied up in Emerson's future and the need for a new right wing-back."

plagy: "Our lack of pressing is killing us, why do you think it's become so fractured and half-hearted?"

Alasdair says: "I genuinely don't know. They are a super fit team but seem to be very sporadic with their pressing. The overworked Harry Kane presses less than he used to, no doubt as a way of saving his legs, which then causes an issue with a team press from the front. You'll often see Bentancur racing up the pitch to fulfil that role. It's a very unbalanced style of pressing and Conte doesn't seem to have found a solution."

commm: "Are Arsenal the blueprint and build of what Spurs could have been?"

Alasdair says: "I think so. They've taken what Spurs were doing under Pochettino but they've shown patience and made the right signings at the right times with the required investment in the windows. It needs to serve as a stark lesson to the powers that be at Tottenham."
