Parts of the UK are set to enjoy another warm weekend with highs of 23C before a cold chill could send temperatures plummeting.
Most of England is forecast to see temperatures hit 20C on Saturday with more warm weather forecast across the south with highs of 23C in London on Sunday, following an unseasonably warm start to Autumn.
Sunshine and showers are forecast this weekend, with rain hitting parts of Scotland on Sunday, according to the Met Office.
But changeable conditions and colder weather could creep in over the next few weeks with lows predicted to drop into single digits below 10C across the UK by Thursday October 8, according to the Met Office.
The latest WXCharts forecast shows cooler air will arrive late next week, with temperature maps suggesting the coldest air will be near the western parts of the country and Ireland.
A map showing minimum temperatures at 6am on October 8 puts parts of the Scottish Highlands at around 3C, while parts of Northern England could fall to around 6C. The south is expected to be milder with temperatures dropping to 8C.
The Met Office’s long range weather forecast predicts some wetter weather at the start of the month.
“This will quickly change as weather systems move in from the Atlantic at the end of next week and over the following weekend. These will bring spells of rain or showers to most areas, heavy at times (especially in the northwest) with some strong winds,” the forecast said.
But “drier, brighter spells” could be seen towards the middle of October with temperatures “slightly below normal at first” before becoming warmer.
In the later half of the month showers or longer spells of rain often moving in from the Atlantic are expected.
“This means the wettest and at times windiest weather is more likely in the west and northwest, and relatively drier conditions more likely towards the south and east,” according to the forecaster.
However, the Met Office added that late October could be unpredictable as there is a chance evolving weather patterns develop leading to “longer drier spells more widely or rainfall accumulating in climatologically drier areas.”
Here’s a look at the five-day weather forecast:
Today:
Scotland, Northern Ireland, northwest England and northwest Wales will have a windy day with showery outbreaks of rain, this turning heavy and persistent at times. After a chilly start elsewhere, it will be mostly dry with some warm sunshine developing.
Tonight:
A weakening band of rain will move southeastwards into England and Wales overnight. Clear spells and a few showers to the northwest. Clear spells and fog patches in the southeast.
Saturday:
Some rain across the north and west of Scotland on Saturday, and some showers affecting central and southwest England and southeast Wales. Otherwise fine with some warm spells of sunshine.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
