Where is BBC's Everything I know About Love filmed?

The BBC’s adaptation of Dolly Alderton's hit 2018 bestselling memoir Everything I Know About Love has been positively after it aired last night (7 June). Broadcast every Tuesday on BBC One at 10:40pm, all seven episodes have also been made available to binge on iPlayer.

Telling the story of four friends and their respective love heartaches and triumphs, Everything I Know About Love tells you all you need to know about surviving your twenties - from bad first dates to awkward sexual encounters. The romantic comedy’s opening episode saw childhood friends Maggie (Emma Appleton) and Birdy (Bel Powley) move into their first London house-share, along with Nell (Marli Siu) and Amara (Aliyah Odoffin).

During a time when Gangnam Style swept the internet and the country was preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games, the series aims to recreate North London in the early part of the 2010s. However, while many famous London landmarks are included, not all of the filming took place in the capital.

Although set mainly in Camden, filming occurred in Manchester as well as London. The series’ opening scene takes place on board a train to London when Maggie meets heartthrob Street.

The pair share their first kiss on the platform once they’ve disembarked. This was actually shot at Manchester Piccadilly, which acted as a stand-in for a London station. Nearby is Manchester’s Space Studios in West Gorton, where the stage was utilised for further parts of filming.

Deansgate provided the setting for one of the more comedic scenes which saw Maggie and Birdy kitted in inflatable pig costumes in a square surrounded by restaurants. For this shoot, the street hadn’t been locked off which meant that some passers-by thought everything they were witnessing was reality.

As for London, most of the series was filmed in Camden. When speaking to RadioTimes actress Bel Powley revealed that scenes were actually shot on location during real Friday nights out in the local area.

"The Camden stuff was mental. Like, filming on a Friday night in Camden, it's definitely something. My favourite scene to film was The Primrose Hill [scene] - rolling down Primrose Hill.

“We shot it at dawn on Primrose Hill, it was so magical; the sunrise was so beautiful. And even though the ground was wet and cold, we were still just having so much fun."

Once the quartet had arrived in the debut episode, they were seen walking down Inverness Street - with the renowned Big City Comics store visible in the background. Camden Lock is the site where Birdy spends much of her time.

The final English city to feature in the BBC romcom is Liverpool. However, this appearance is far more fleeting, with the city’s iconic Royal Albert Dock briefly appearing as Birdy makes a phone call while sitting on a bench along the dock.
