Where Emmerdale Paddy Dingle's ex-wife is now and what happened to Emily Kirk

Paddy Dingle is currently going through a really tough time in Emmerdale.

The character, played by Dominic Brunt, has spiralled into a depression after he found out his wife, Chas Dingle, had an affair with Al Chapman. His mental health problems hit a low last week when Paddy considered taking his own life.

The character was saved by Marlon Dingle who continued his attempts to help Paddy this week. Marlon organised a lock-in with the fictional village's male characters on Friday as they all shared their own worries and anxieties.

Paddy was initially resistant to the idea but eventually opened up and the episode ended on a touching note as he vowed to still be here next week.

Paddy's complicated love life has plagued his time in the fictional Yorkshire village since he first arrived in the soap in 1997. In addition to Chas, the character has been married on three other occasions to Mandy Dingle, Rhona Ghoskirk and Emily Kirk.

Chas, Mandy and Rhona all remain key characters in Emmerdale and have played a part in the current storyline. However, Emily left the fictional village for the final time in 2008 and has never returned to the Dales.

Due to the open ended nature of her exit, fans have speculated whether the character could return to the soap. Emily was played by Kate McGregor who joined the cast of Emmerdale in 1999.

Her character married Paddy in dramatic circumstances in 2002 when they stepped in after Marlon and Tricia Dingle's wedding was derailed. They enjoyed a happy relationship before their romance faded and Paddy had an affair with Viv Windsor which resulted in their split.

Emily was a mainstay on the Dales until 2005 when Kate took maternity leave and had a temporary break from performing. When the character arrived back on our screens, she was involved in a storyline with Bishop George and eventually left the village to become a vicar in Manchester.

In a leaving statement, Kate said she wanted to quit the soap to pursue new opportunities. She said: "I've had an amazing eight years on the show but feel the time is right to try something new. I will miss everyone at Emmerdale desperately but I'm really excited about what the future holds."

Kate has since seemed to have stepped away from the spotlight and hasn't performed since appearing in a theatre production called The Flint Street Nativity.

The production arrived in Liverpool in 2007 and Kate told the ECHO she quit Emmerdale to spend more time with her family. She said: "Your perspective on life changes when a little one comes along. His dad had been looking after him full-time but now he is going back to work as a teacher.

“Plus, he’ll be at school soon and I wanted to be around for that and have the energy. I was coming home exhausted and then you don’t get the best of each other.”
