The Indianapolis Colts dropped their third consecutive game on Sunday, this time to the Buffalo Bills, and now sit at 4-6 on the season.
So, in this week’s iteration of ESPN’s power rankings, where do the Colts end up? You might be surprised.
The Colts entered the 2024 season at No. 18 on this list and have been as low as No. 28 following an 0-2 start, along with just about everywhere in between.
Now, after clocking in at No. 21 in last week’s rankings, the Colts actually jumped up a spot to No. 20 overall. With the Colts struggling, I think this move up in the rankings says more about the performances from the teams around them than what Indianapolis is doing.
It was another week for the Colts where the defense did just about everything they could to keep the offense within striking distance. For much of the game, Bills quarterback Josh Allen and the passing game was out of sync and the Colts limited running back James Cook to a modest 4.2 yards per rush.
However, against a quarterback of Allen’s caliber, limiting him for an entire game is a very tall task, and eventually he and the offense broke through with some big plays, including a long scoring drive in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Not helping the Colts’ defense was the play of their offense, who struggled mightily in the passing game. Joe Flacco was responsible for four turnovers, which turned into 17 points for the Bills’ offense, along with the pass game looking very disjointed once again.
Indianapolis found first half success with Jonathan Taylor in the run game, but got away from him in the second half as Buffalo adjusted.
Next up for the Colts is a road matchup with the New York Jets, who at 3-7 on the season come in at No. 24 in ESPN’s rankings.
