Not too long ago, it was possible to buy a cheap bottle of wine for less than €5.
But with the Government’s new minimum unit alcohol pricing coming into force on January 4, supermarkets must now sell booze at 10 cent per gram of alcohol, sending prices soaring.
Wine is more expensive the higher the percentage volume of alcohol in the bottle and the average price of a bottle you’ll find on the shelf is around €10.
