Australian soap opera Home and Away has been running for 33 years and has introduced us to some stars who have gone on to achieve huge success.
Some took off in Hollywood after their time on the show, while others settled into other careers after their time in Summer Bay.
Let’s take a look at where some of the stars of Home and Away are now.
Kate Ritchie as Sally Fletcher
Sally Fletcher, played by Kate Ritchie, first appeared on Home and Away’s pilot episode and went on to become the longest running original female cast member on the show.
Throughout her time, she was featured in a number of dramatic storylines and even moved to Ireland at one point.
Sally left in 2008 and returned in 2013 for a short stint.
After Home and Away, Kate starred in local dramas including Underbelly and Cops LAC. She also hosts a radio breakfast show in Australia and has written two children’s books.
Nicolle Dickson as Bobby Simpson
Nicolle Dickson played beloved Bobby and was adored by fans during her time on the show.
Bobby was the rebellious foster child who was known to deliver a few punches when it was called for.
She left the show in 1993 and went on to have a number of minor roles in other series. Nicolle also stared in Celebrity Survivor in 2006.
Since then, Nicolle has left the world of acting and now works as an accountant and bookkeeper.
Ryan Kwanten as Vinnie Paterson
Vinnie worked part-time as a stripper in Summer Bay. He eventually ended up in jail for fraud, as he was always chasing a get-rich scheme.
Ryan Kwanten left the show after ten years in 2002 and has since gone on to work on a number of notable shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and New Girl.
He is most known for his role on True Blood as Jason Stackhouse from 2008 to 2014.
Ryan has been busy over the last few years, and has a number of projects coming up in 2022.
Isla Fisher as Shannon Reed
Shannon once tried to break up Shane and Angel Parrish, unsuccessfully. She is later understood to have moved away with her girlfriend in 1997.
Since then, Isla Fisher has gone on to achieve huge success. She has starred in The Great Gatsby, Nocturnal Animals, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Arrested Development and a number of others.
Isla is married to actor Sacha Baron Cohen and the pair share three children.
Tempany Deckert as Selina Roberts
Teen Selina Roberts always found herself in the middle of trouble. She was known as the grunge girl who had a miscarriage at school and fell for her teacher.
After leaving the show for good in 1998, Tempany had a few minor roles in series, TV movies and shorts.
She now lives in the US and has written a number of children’s books.
Dieter Brummer as Shane Parrish
Shane Parrish was one of the most popular characters in Home and Away during his time on the show from 1992 to 1996.
He was involved in a number of dramatic storylines including losing custody of his son, only to find out the child had cancer and leaving the show as his character died from blood poisoning. Not to mention the highs and lows of his relationship with Angel Parrish.
After Home and Away, Dieter starred in a number a shows such as Neighbours, Medivac and Underbelly, but moved away from acting in 2014.
He was mentioned in the media for a number of years as a result of his feud with Melissa George, who played Angel. Dieter allegedly even asked producers to get rid of Shane so he didn’t have to deal with her anymore.
Sadly, Dieter was found dead in his home in Glenhaven, near Sydney, in 2021. He was discovered after New South Wales Police Force officers responded to a ‘concern for welfare’ report. His death was not treated as suspicious.
Melissa George as Angel Parrish
Melissa played the teenage runaway that became one half of the show’s most loved couples.
She left the show in 1996 and later landed roles in Friends, Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Wife. She also starred in Mulholland Drive alongside Naomi Watts. Melissa’s most recent acting credit was in 2021.
Dieter Brummer was not the only one Melissa didn’t get on with, as she allegedly ‘threatened to walk off set’ when Angel was brought up.
Melissa later told a local newspaper: “I don’t need credibility from my country anymore; I just need them all to be quiet. If they have nothing intelligent to say, please don’t speak to me anymore.”
Chris Hemsworth as Kim Hyde
Chris Hemsworth played Kim Hyde, the high school dropout hunk.
Home and Away set Chris up for fame after he left the show in 2007 and has since become a Hollywood star and household name.
Chris is possibly best known for playing Thor since 2013 in a number of films and TV shows. As well as that, he has starred in the Ghostbusters remake, Men in Black: International and many others.
It has been announced that Chris will play Hulk Hogan in a biopic about his life.
Heath Ledger as Scott Irwin
Heath had a short stint on the show as bad boy Scott Irwin in 1997.
His career skyrocketed after this, with Heath landing roles in 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight’s Tale and Brokeback Mountain.
One of the biggest roles Heath took on was the Joker in The Dark Knight, with many claiming that his portrayal of Batman’s nemesis was the best.
Heath Ledger tragically passed away in 2008 after an accidental overdose on prescription drugs.
