The Met Office predicts that showers with intermittent sunshine will persist throughout the rest of July in its long-range forecast, stating that the UK shouldn’t expect any hot weather until mid-August.
“Temperatures towards the end of the month are likely to be slightly below average, possibly rising to average,” states the London forecast for the last week of the month.
These below-average temperatures are combined with “periods of sunshine interspersed with showers”, with the prospect of some showers that “may turn heavy and thundery”.
Even looking ahead to August, the Met Office predicts “a continuation of unsettled conditions”, meaning more periods of rainfall and some sunny spells.
While most of the rain is expected to be summer showers, there is also “a chance of some more prolonged spells of rain that may push rainfall totals to above average for the time of year”.
If you’re hoping for warmer weather during what’s usually the hottest month of the year, the Met Office doesn’t expect that to be forthcoming, stating that: “Temperatures over the period are expected to be average for the time of year, with the possibility of very warm or hot conditions being less likely than usual.”
This comes as much of Europe is in the midst of an unprecedented heatwave, with the Cerberus heatwave reaching heights of 60°C in some land temperatures.
Here in the UK, however, you might be wondering when the rain will finally stop. Here’s what you need to know about the rain forecast in London.
When will it stop raining in the UK?
From Tuesday onwards, this week is predicted to be reasonably dry, with only intermittent showers.
However, unseasonable showers and even thunderstorms are predicted to last throughout the end of the month and into August.
In some areas, there is also a risk of flooding, with a low-risk flood warning in place across England from the Environmental Agency this week.
