Ireland is in the grip of a sizzling heatwave as the record for the hottest day ever in August was reached today with temperatures hitting 31.7C in Carlow.
And a status yellow high temperature warning remains in place across the entire country until Sunday as we face another day of high heat tomorrow.
However, the hot weather is set to come to an end soon but not before a nasty surprise of thunderstorms and heavy downpours leading to possible flooding on Sunday.

It will still remain very hot with highest temperatures of up to 30C in the southeast but the dry weather will come to an end.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Another hot day with highest temperature of 25 to 30 degrees warmest in the southeast in light breezes.
"Cloud will bubble up through the middle of the day, sparking off scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon, which could produce some very heavy downpours and localised flooding."
And next week, the weather will see a big change as the country is set to cool down to much lower temperatures in the high teens or low twenties.
A forecaster added: "A cloudier day overall on Monday with scattered showers, potentially heavy for some. Temperatures beginning to recede with highest temperatures of 18 degrees in the north to 24 degrees in the south. Light to moderate northerly winds.
"On Tuesday, a cooler and cloudier day once again with scattered showers. Highest temperatures around average in the high teens or low twenties in a moderate northerly breeze."
And for the rest of the week, it is expected to feel "much fresher" as temperatures are set to stay around the high teens or low twenties.
And "low pressure" next week will bring changeable conditions as we can expect further showers at times.
