When Weston McKennie can make his debut as Leeds United shirt number revealed

Weston McKennie will be available to make his debut when Leeds United travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

McKennie has been handed the No. 28 shirt for Leeds, and will join fellow USA teammates Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson at Elland Road along with his American compatriot Jesse Marsch.

The No. 28 shirt was last worn by defender Gaetano Berardi, and has previously been sported by the likes of Aidy White, Max Gradel and Fabian Delph.

Leeds have revealed that McKennie will join on loan until the end of the season from Juventus with an option to buy. Reports in the Italian media suggest Leeds have paid a fraction over £1m to bring the 24-year-old in on loan, with an agreement to pay a further £29m to make it permanent. Add-ons would, reportedly, make it a £35m total package..

He arrived in Europe from FC Dallas in 2016 and completed the final year of his youth career at Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke. He made his debut for the Royal Blues in May 2017 and scored five goals and provided seven assists in 91 appearances for the club.

McKennie helped propel Schalke to a runners-up finish in the Bundesliga, although he spent his final two seasons in Gelsenkirchen fending off relegation.

Nonetheless, McKennie joined Italian heavyweights Juventus on a season-long loan in the summer of 2020, which was later converted into a permanent deal. The United States international scored 13 goals in 96 appearances for the Old Lady and won the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup in 2020-21.
