When the Rishi Sunak vs Liz Truss leadership debate is on and how to watch it

Tory leadership candidates Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss will be going head-to-head live on TV tonight to argue why they should replace Boris Johnson.

Previously, Ms Truss made headlines for her £8.8 billion policy pledge to cut the public sector wage bill by paying workers in cheaper areas of the country less than those in the more expensive parts. However, she has now abandoned the proposal following outrage from her fellow Conservative Party members who warned it would lead to a "levelling down" of the nation.

The U-turn was welcomed by fellow candidate Mr Sunak who said it would have led to "almost half a million workers in Wales getting a pay cut". Ahead of a previous debate, the pair clashed on tax policies.

Mr Sunak had faced attacks from Ms Truss for overseeing rising taxes while in no 11 during the pandemic. However, he insisted that he wants to see taxes come down, but argues it is necessary to bring inflation under control before making major changes.

These will likely be addressed once again in tonight's debate which will be hosted by Sky News. Here's a breakdown of everything you need to know about tonight's televised debate:
