When supermarket fresh turkeys go on sale for Christmas including Lidl, Aldi, Tesco and Asda

Shoppers will be able to pick up their fresh turkey ahead of Sunday’s Christmas feast in the majority of supermarkets this week. For many families, a fresh turkey is the centrepiece of the dinner table and only fresh will cut the mustard.

Supermarkets will begin stocking their shelves with fresh turkeys from today, December 19. However, not all will be available to everyone.

With expectation for high demand, some supermarkets have decided that only those forward planners who pre-ordered their meat will be able to pick it up. Thankfully though, there are still options, however, they are expected to be snapped up quickly so be prepared to dash to the shops.

Aldi

Fresh in store today, December 19, Aldi will start selling its full turkeys and turkey crowns in small, medium and large sizes. The price will depend on the weight, with the website suggesting they’ll cost anywhere between £7.98 and £47.86.

Aldi turkeys are not available for pre-order or for order online. Instead, Aldi advises shoppers to check in their local stores.

Lidl

Lidl is following suit with its turkeys hitting the shelves from today, December 19. Its whole turkeys cost £4.19 per kg and are available in small, medium and large, with its deluxe turkeys, in medium and large, costing £7.99 per kg.

It also has small, medium and large turkey crowns at £8.95 per kg, with deluxe, free-range and deluxe ultimate turkeys available. For those after something different, there are also pork and duck offerings.

Lidl says that there is “no need” to pre-book as they’ll be available in-store from December 19 with frozen turkeys already available.

Asda

Asda’s frozen turkeys must be added to your orders online by today, December 19, with fresh turkeys available in-store. Its medium-sized fresh-basted turkey crown costs around £22.50, while its small extra special free-range crown costs the same at £22.50.

The frozen turkeys, which include whole birds as well as crowns in a variety of sizes, cost between £13.50 and £25.50. For those hosting small gatherings, the supermarket also offers turkey breast parcels, with stuffing and bacon, for £14 - these are in-store only from December 19.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s is offering a huge range of meats, including turkeys, in-store from December 19, with delivery slots for fresh turkeys available between December 20 and 24. It is offering turkey crowns for £9 per kg, with small, medium and large options.

For those who don’t take a liking to turkey, Sainsbury’s also has beef and gammon joints as well as a leg of lamb and corn-fed chicken. Frozen turkeys are also available in-store now.

Morrisons

Morrisons turkeys are available in-store and online from December 20. Turkeys are available to buy online now with a delivery slot after December 20, however, it is worth noting that at the time of writing, the small whole turkey, small turkey crown, and roast-in-the-bag turkey crown with bacon were all sold out.

Its whole turkey prices are at the £4.99 per kg mark with its turkey crowns costing £8.99 per kg. There are also deluxe options available as well as pre-stuffed turkey crowns wrapped in bacon and turkey parcels for smaller gatherings.

Tesco, M&S, Waitrose

Unfortunately for those who prefer to shop at Tesco, M&S or Waitrose, the boat for fresh turkeys has long gone. These supermarkets offer their fresh turkeys as a food-to-order option and must be pre-ordered towards the beginning of December.

For those who prefer to shop at these supermarkets, there may still be frozen turkeys available in store. Also be on the lookout for any pre-prepared joints that have already been stuffed or come with extras, such as wrapped in bacon.
