When Meat Loaf rocked Nottingham and delighted the crowd with a giant inflatable bat!

Meat Loaf was a true titan on the rock scene, with his seismic Bat Out Of Hell album shifting 100 million albums worldwide.

With songs such as the classic mini rock opera of the title track, the plaintive Heaven Can Wait and floor-filling numbers such as Paradise By The Dashboard Light, the album propelled Meat and songwriter Jim Steinman to mega stardom in 1977.

But the success didn't stop there, as the hits kept on coming, most notably in 1993 where the ballad I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) was best-selling single of the year and even scooped him a Grammy.

The accompanying album Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell spawned other hits such as Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through and Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are.

Meat Loaf is no stranger to Nottinghamshire and has performed here several times over the years.

His most recent visit was in May 2013 when he brought his Last At Bat Tour to the then-Capital FM Arena, now the Motorpoint Arena.

He played a stellar selection of hits including Life Is A Lemon (And I Want My Money Back), Dead Ringer For Love and Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are.

But of course the real showstopper was Bat Out Of Hell - where a massive inflatable bat burst from the stage, much to the delight of an ecstatic crowd.

Elsewhere, he rattled through You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth, Heaven Can Wait and initiated a huge sing-a-long to Paradise By The Dashboard Light – where, hilariously, a large inflatable couple burst forth from the stage!

A scintillating encore included I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That).

Meat Loaf also brought his Bad Attitude Tour to the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham in May 1984, where he rollicked through songs such as Midnight At The Lost And Found, Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad and Dead Ringer For Love.

He rocked up again in the city in July 2008 on his Casa de Came Tour at the then-Trent FM arena, playing all the hits and a few lesser known tracks such as Bring Me A Bible And A Beer and If It Ain’t Broke, Break It.
