When it comes to cold, snow and wind, why are blizzards so deadly?

The blizzard experienced across the United States this December has been described as the deadliest authorities in western New York state have ever seen.

At least 60 people have died in cold-weather-related incidents across the United States since blizzard conditions began on December 21, with 32 dead in western New York state's Erie and Niagra counties alone.

"We're recovering from the worst storm I've ever seen, certainly in terms of deaths from mother nature's wrath," Erie County executive Mark Poloncarz said.
