Despite an annual slot dedicated to Strictly in the TV calendar, recent events have suggested that the first episode of the series may be postponed. On Thursday, September 8, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. Following her death, the UK entered a 10-day period of mourning and the fate of several entertainment shows has been called into question during that time.

When is the Strictly Come Dancing 2022 launch show?
The launch show was initially earmarked in the TV schedules for 6.10pm on Saturday, September 17 but the BBC has since revealed that, following the death of The Queen, it will now be postponed. The launch show was filmed on Wednesday, September 7 and is now due to be aired on BBC One on Friday, September 23 at 7pm, followed by the first live show on Saturday, September 24.
