Now that the Jubilee bank holiday period is over, many of us may be itching for another free day off work.
After this weekend you will have to wait a few months for the next bank holiday which will be taking place on August 29 - the summer bank holiday.
Believe it or not, the UK used to have a whopping 33 official holidays on the calendar, mainly consisting of saints days and religious celebrations. However, it was decided in 1834 that 33 holidays was too much, so a law was introduced to reduce the number.

Now, there are a total of eight bank holidays in England and Wales. There is only one other country in the world that has fewer bank holidays than us - Mexico - which has seven official public holidays.
Scotland has nine, while Northern Ireland gets 10 throughout the year.
