After regulation of Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers were tied at 19-19. The Chiefs kicked a 29-yard field goal with just seconds left on the clock to seal the tie.
Surprisingly, in 57 previous Super Bowl matchups, only one other game has gone to overtime.
That occurred in Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons in 2016.
In that game, Tom Brady and the Patriots overturned a 28-3 deficit in miraculous fashion, and went on to win 34-28. Current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator at the time.
