Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are in for a treat this holiday season, with Star-Lord and his crew making a return to screens.

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special is set to be no different than the comedic yet adventurous signature style of the movies, with James Gunn writing and directing it.

Ahead of the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which is coming out on May 5, 2023, the holiday special aims to build a bridge between their previous appearances across Marvel movies and their third film.

But when is the special being released and where can you watch it? Here’s everything we know.

When is The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special coming out?

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special was released on Friday, November 25, 2022, ahead of the holiday season.

Meaning, the festive interpretation of the beloved franchise is now available to watch.

(Disney +)

Spoiler alert:

The special sees the Guardians go on a mission to make Christmas unforgettable for Quill, to make him feel better about losing Gamora.

Viewers who have seen the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films will know that the Gamora we knew in the first and second movies is no longer alive. Instead, a Gamora from another timeline, without the memories of the Gamora we watched, has joined the storyline.

To battle Star-Lord’s grief and sadness, Drax and Mantis head to our planet Earth to bring him his cinematic hero, Kevin Bacon.

Needless to say, things get a bit out of hand but our heroes Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Groot, Rocket, and Kraglin always find a way through, so this shouldn’t be any different.

Where can I watch The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special?

The all-new original is available to view on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney +.

The TV special is 41 minutes long and is classed as an action-adventure comedy.

Almost the entire original cast is included in it, with Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper’s characters making appearances. And, of course, Kevin Bacon plays himself.

Will the Special come with a dedicated soundtrack?

Guardians of the Galaxy is known for its soundtrack and the special will be no different.

The original recordings on it will include Old 97’s I Don’t Know What Chrismas Is (But Christmastime Is Here), and Here It Is Christmastime, featuring Kevin Bacon.
