When is the Eurovision grand final 2023? How to watch live on TV and start times

The Eurovision is back for another year and fans of the annual song contest have descended on Liverpool, as it hosts the esteemed event for the first time.

The UK is hosting on behalf of Ukraine, after its representing group Kalush Orchestra were crowned the 2022 winner in Turin. However, this year's contest is happening in Britain due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and the winning country.

This year's competition will feature an array of Ukrainian and British performers with singer Mae Muller representing the UK. Performers will take to the stage at the M&S Bank arena to pay tribute to the war-torn nation while competing for the winning title.

Starting today, the first and second semi-finals will take place before the grand final this weekend. Pop star Alesha Dixon, Ukranian singer Julia Sanina and Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham will host the two installments.

The grand final will see all three women host alongside Eurovision legend Graham Norton on Saturday, May 13. Brits can tune into all live shows on BBC one, either live or through its online iPlayer.

Read below to find out the times for each show and what to expect during the spectacular event.

The semi-final evening preview show will take place on Thursday, May 11 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

In the second semi-final, the theme “Music Unites Generations” will explore the connection between generations of Ukrainians and the music they love.

Mariya Yaremchuk - Ukraine contestant at the Eurovision in 2014 - will lead a contemporary montage of some of the most well-known pieces of music from the country.

For the interval, a performance called "Be Who You Wanna Be" will celebrate how Eurovision is a place for everyone – no matter who you are, led by drag performers and troupe of eclectic dancers.

Grand final - Saturday, May 13

The spectacular live grand final will go ahead this Saturday, May 13 evening at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The final show will see the remaining finalists perform before one is declared winner of the glass microphone trophy.

The show will open with last year’s winners Kalush Orchestra who will perform a song titled ‘Voices of a New Generation’.

This will be followed by the Eurovision flag parade of all 26 grand finalists, accompanied with performances by past Ukrainian Eurovision contestants.

The UK's own Sam Ryder will perform during the first interval, followed by a celebration of Liverpool's contribution to music in "The Liverpool Songbook".
