The UEFA Europa League final has provided plenty of entertainment over the years and certainly is not one to be missed as two of Europe’s best teams go head-to-head for a chance at winning the highly respected competition.
Just two English sides have won this competition in the last 20 years, which shows the competitive nature of the tournament, while it has been won by a Spanish side in seven of the last 10 editions.
Here is all you need to know about the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League final including when it is, where it takes place and who’s involved.
When is the Europa League final?
The 2022 Europa League final will kick-off at 8pm on May 18 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain.
The final was originally scheduled to be played at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, before it was moved to the home of La Liga club Sevilla, due to the postponement and relocation of the 2020 final, meaning the original hosts were moved back a year.
The stadium, which has been named after Sevilla’s former president, has a capacity of 42,714, but this will be reduced to 40,000 for this year’s final. It has previously held the 1986 European Cup final, as well as one of the 1982 World Cup semi-finals.

How to watch
Since BT Sport has exclusive broadcast rights for the Europa League in 2021-22, the final will be shown across its television channels on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate, while it can also be streamed live on the BT Sport app.
Who’s involved
The semi-finals of this season’s competition concluded on Thursday, April 5, when Eintracht Frankfurt overcame West Ham United 1-0 and Rangers defeated RB Leipzig 3-1, meaning the final will be contested between the Bundesliga and Scottish Premier League sides.
Only Eintracht Frankfurt have previously won the competition, in 1980, while Rangers reached the final in 2008. The winner of the final will automatically qualify for the group stage of next season’s Champions League, and will also compete against the winner of the 2022 Champions League final in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup in August.
Last year, Villarreal won the Europa League after defeating Manchester United 11–10 on penalties following a 1–1 draw after extra time at the Stadion Miejski in Gdańsk, Poland, and therefore winning the competition for the first time in the club's history.
