Love horror, but hate being scared? "Scary Movie" is back, and it's a hilarious riff on all the popular horror movies you love. The sixth film in the long-running parody franchise reunites the original creative team and a familiar cast for the first time in years, and it takes aim at a fresh batch of horror hits along the way.
The send-up starring Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans is in theaters right now. But how long will it be before you can watch it without leaving your couch?
At the moment, "Scary Movie" isn't streaming on any of the best streaming services just yet. Here's the good news, though: Based on Paramount's recent release patterns, we can make a solid guess about when you'll be able to rent, buy, or stream it at home.
When can we expect 'Scary Movie' to arrive on streaming?
As of right now, "Scary Movie" is still playing in theaters after opening nationwide on June 5, 2026. If you'd rather catch it at home, however, you shouldn't have to wait too long.
Paramount usually has a 45-day theatrical window before its films move over to premium video-on-demand (PVOD). So that means "Scary Movie" should hit digital rental and movie purchasing platforms like Amazon and Apple TV around mid-to-late July 2026, possibly on July 21. Physical media usually follows that, though a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release hasn't been announced yet. It's likely in the cards, though.
As for a subscription streaming service, the film's home will be Paramount+, the studio's own platform. Paramount has said in the past that its movies won't land on Paramount+ until at least 90 days after they reach theaters, which puts "Scary Movie" on track for an early fall arrival, most likely sometime in September 2026.
After that initial Paramount+ digital window, the film could eventually turn up on free, ad-supported platforms (like Paramount's own Pluto TV) down the line. That's still a little way off, though, so renting or buying it remains your fastest route to a home viewing. And in the meantime, you've got the rest of the franchise to check out, too.
What is 'Scary Movie' about?
"Scary Movie" brings back Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) and her friends, including Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall) and brothers Shorty (Marlon Wayans) and Ray (Shawn Wayans), 26 years after they first crossed paths with a masked killer. Yes, the same goofy one that loves to ask everyone "Wazzuuuuuppppp?" as you Gen Z readers may remember from the promos (it's from a Budweiser commercial). When that same killer resurfaces, the group is dragged back into the silliness once more to put him to rest once and for all. Or maybe for the time being, so there can be additional sequels.
This time, the targets are bigger. The film spoofs plenty of recent horror flicks like "Get Out," "Sinners," "Smile," "M3GAN," "The Substance," "Weapons," and "Terrifier 3," plus the "Scream" franchise, of course. Kenan Thompson even shows up in a gag you'll immediately recognize. Expect the same no-holds-barred, everyone-is-fair-game humor the Wayans built the franchise on, but for a more modern audience -- it's 2026, after all.
